About

Hi, I’m Chris, a full time small animal vet and part-time self-taught, mixed media artist based in Hampshire, UK. I hate talking about myself so find this kind of thing really difficult and awkward!I first got into painting at school, where art was my favourite subject probably because it was the most laid back lesson! I first started drawing animals on family visits to a farm in Somerset in the school holidays, where I would sketch the sheep in between lambing. It was here that I came across Cecil Aldring’s artwork, someone who’s animal pictures I still find inspiring now. I re-visited art again when I was studying at Liverpool Vet School. My housemate bought home acanvas and I found that I still enjoyed painting, particularly race horses and that it offered a relaxing contrast to my studies.

I love being able to create something completely unique which other people enjoy. I find painting is I I find painting isthe best way to switch off - when I’m painting, I lose all track of time (unless it’s not going well -then it’s not fun!). I love using bright colours and experimenting with colour combinations you don’tthink will work out. I find it quite difficult to sell my artwork, I can become attached to some of them.It was actually my wife, Rosie who first suggested I sell my artwork when she found them stashed away. It was also Rosie who started naming the animals I paint - her only contribution to the whole process! find painting is the best way to switch off - when I’m painting, I lose all track of time (unless it’s not going well -then it’s not fun!).
